The Virtual Presence Post is a new tool of U.S. diplomacy in the 21st century. Virtual Presence Posts are vehicles that promote interaction between the citizens of a foreign city or region and citizens of the United States.
U.S. Dept. of Interior Engages Tobago in Discussions on Ecotourism
Visiting Specialists from the U.S. Dept. of the Interior - National Park Service held a roundtable meeting with tour operators and environmental NGOs on October 1, 2009 in Tobago to discuss ecotourism challenges and practices. Visits were also held with the Tobago Department of Tourism, Mr. Warren Solomon, and with the Buccoo Reef Trust to share perspectives and insights on best practices for the ecotourism sector. The team also took part in Interviews on Channel 5 and Radio Tambrin 92.7 while in Tobago.
U.S. Expert on Cultural Heritage Tourism Visits Trinidad and Tobago
Lenwood Sloan, the Cultural and Heritage Tourism Director of the State of Pennsylvania, visited Trinidad and Tobago from Sept. 16-19. He met with the Ministries of Culture and tourism, toured the National Museum in Port of Spain, and met with the local arts leaders, the T&T Film Company and members of AmCham, to discuss Trinidad's plans for expanding and promoting cultural attractions to new tourism markets. In Tobago, Mr. Sloan participated in the Tobago Heritage Festival, met with arts and cultural leaders and learned of the island's many festivals and their unique role in sustaining local tourism.
Tobago Aids Society And Tobago Oasis Foundation Contribute To Training Workshop
To strengthen the ability of civil society organizations in Trinidad & Tobago to implement HIV/AIDS projects, by increasing their knowledge, confidence and skills in resource mobilization, the Caribbean Coalition of National AIDS Programme Coordinators (CCNAPC), the National AIDS Coordination Committee, International HIV/AIDS Alliance Caribbean Office, the U.S. Embassy (Trinidad) and CDC Caribbean Regional Office held a series of four workshops over a five-month period. Ten NGOs, including two from Tobago, Tobago Oasis Foundation and the Tobago AIDS Society, participated in the workshops and contributed their ideas and expertise.
